What is

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a safe, natural looking, non-surgical, advanced hair restoration technique. It is great for men and women affected with hair loss.

SMP is a method of cosmetic tattooing which simulates hair follicles, resulting in a thicker more youthful looking head of hair.

SMP treatment is highly recommended for

  • Men and women suffering from Alopecia
  • Male pattern baldness
  • Post hair transplant patients
  • Clients with existing scars from accidents or injuries
  • People experiencing thinning hair

SMP is an exciting journey to a new, more confident you.

Will the pigment change colour?

No! SMP is a form of permanent cosmetics, but unlike some tattooing or permanent makeup, the pigment is designed to maintain its intended colour. The pigment contains no additional colourants or additives and will only lighten, not discolour over time.

How long do the sessions take?

In most cases 3 sessions are required (10-14 days apart) to achieve the desired look. The first 2 sessions are ‘building’ the density and the third completes the ‘definition’ aspect of the procedure. Sometimes a fourth session is required to achieve the desired result.

Do I need to take time off for the treatments?

SMP is non invasive and requires no downtime. In most cases, you will not need to take any extended time away from work, school, or other functions. After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for 2-3 days post session. This redness subsides quickly and most clients return to work either right away or within a couple of days. Clients are also allowed to wear hats, should they feel the need, as long as it isn’t too tight or abrasive.

What kind of hairline will I have?

If you are unsure of what style or type of hairline will work for you, I will be there to help. With artistic experience on how to fit a hairline to your head shape and age, I can help recommend what’s best. Over the course of your sessions you can also tweak and adjust the hairline for a perfect result.

Should I cut my hair before the treatment?

Depending upon the pattern and extent of the thinning hair, some clients are able to maintain a longer length of hair. SMP can help thicken areas so that less of the scalp is seen showing through. However, if there is a strong pattern of hair loss or just not a lot of hair density left, the client is recommended to crop it shorter.

Can SMP hide my scars?

Yes! By replicating tiny hair follicles inside the scarring and blending the colour around the scarring area, transplant and surgical scars can see massive improvement in concealment.

What is the cost of this treatment?

The cost will depend upon the balding pattern, the area of the scalp to be covered and if any scars are present. In order to give you an accurate price, a consultation is needed.

How painful is SMP?

Most people experience a mild amount of discomfort during the early stages of the session, though this becomes more tolerable as the session progresses. You may feel more discomfort in the temple areas than the crown area. Most clients say that the pain is generally far less than what they expected.

How long will the results last?

Results can last 1 to 3 years with some touch ups in between. For maximum longevity, it is important to keep the scalp in good condition. Taking adequate precautions in the sun and avoid topical products that contain alcohol. It is recommended using a good quality sun block.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes! Cosmetic Art Tattoo has a 12 month satisfaction guarantee, starting from the date of your last session. This guarantee is only valid for those that attend the full series of treatments.
